cTrader Copy review 2026 - built-in copy trading on the cTrader platform

cTrader Copy is the copy-trading service built directly into the cTrader platform. Rather than running a separate bridge, expert advisor (EA) or virtual private server (VPS), investors browse a marketplace of strategies inside the same apps they already use to trade, allocate funds to a provider, and let the provider’s trades copy automatically to their own account. It is operated within the cTrader ecosystem by Spotware, the company behind the platform, and is offered through the cTrader Store. Spotware is not a broker and does not provide portfolio management; strategies and their performance data come from third-party providers.

That “built-in” design is both the appeal and the catch. Because copying happens server-side within one platform, there is nothing to install and no terminal that has to stay switched on, and sizing is handled with a single, transparent equity-to-equity rule. But the same design means cTrader Copy only works if your broker offers cTrader, and it cannot reach MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 or any other platform. This review looks at how it actually works, what it costs, where it is strong, and where a dedicated cross-platform copier would serve you better.

Our verdict — cTrader Copy
A clean, genuinely free-to-use copy service for anyone already inside the cTrader world. Server-side copying and transparent equity-based sizing are real strengths, but the single-platform lock-in and the lack of advanced sizing or mapping hold it back as a general-purpose copier.

What is cTrader Copy?

cTrader Copy is a copy-trading marketplace woven into the cTrader platform. Experienced traders publish a “strategy” — the live trading activity on one of their accounts — and set the conditions under which others may copy it. Investors then browse those strategies, review the published statistics, and allocate money to the ones they like. From that point, every position the provider opens or closes is mirrored on the investor’s side automatically, scaled to the investor’s own capital.

The important distinction from a traditional MetaTrader copier is where the copying runs. With most MT4/MT5 copiers you install software on both the master and the follower side and keep a terminal or VPS online. cTrader Copy instead operates inside the cTrader infrastructure: when you start copying, your funds move to a separate copy-trading account tied to the same cTID (your cTrader ID), and the broker’s servers handle the mirroring. There is no EA to attach, no bridge to configure and no machine of yours that has to stay running for trades to copy.

Platforms and how it works

cTrader Copy is available inside the cTrader apps and the cTrader Store, which means it travels with the platform across desktop, web and mobile. To use it you need a trading account with a broker that supports cTrader Copy; the feature is not a standalone product you can bolt onto MetaTrader or another platform. Availability also varies by broker, jurisdiction and regulation — live copying can be restricted for some retail clients of certain EU/EEA-regulated brokers, and the service is not offered to residents or citizens of the United States.

Sizing uses a straightforward equity-to-equity model. The copied volume is calculated as the investor’s equity divided by the provider’s equity, multiplied by the provider’s traded volume. If a provider with 4,000 USD of equity opens 4 lots and you are copying with 1,000 USD, you receive 1 lot. Equity is recalculated whenever balances change, so adding or withdrawing funds proportionally adjusts both open positions and future trades. A few practical exceptions apply: volumes are rounded to the broker’s volume step, a trade is skipped if it would exceed the broker’s maximum ticket size, and nothing copies if your free margin is insufficient. Stock and share symbols are not copied even if the provider trades them.

As an investor you keep a clear set of controls: you can set an equity stop loss for the copied account, add or remove funds while copying, and stop at any time. When you stop, open copied positions are closed and your remaining balance returns to your main account. Each strategy also carries a minimum investment set by its provider, and while you are copying your balance must stay at or above that minimum.

Key features

  • Copy trading built natively into cTrader — no separate software, bridge, EA or VPS to install or maintain.
  • Server-side mirroring: copying continues even when your own device is switched off.
  • Transparent equity-to-equity sizing with automatic recalculation when you deposit or withdraw.
  • Marketplace of strategies with published performance data, provider conditions and minimum investment shown before you commit.
  • Investor risk tools: equity stop loss, add/remove funds on the fly, and stop-copying that closes positions and returns funds.
  • Three provider fee models — performance (high-water mark), management and volume — always displayed before you start copying.
  • Available across cTrader desktop, web and mobile apps through the same cTID.
  • Demo accounts can copy a strategy when the provider allows it, so you can trial the mechanics risk-free.

Pricing

There is no separate licence or subscription charged by cTrader to use the copy service itself — in that sense it is free to join and free to follow. What you pay are the fees set by the individual strategy provider, and these are always displayed before you commit to a strategy. Three fee types exist. A performance fee is charged monthly on net profit using a high-water mark model, so you are only charged on new profit above your previous peak. A management fee is calculated daily as an annual percentage of your equity and billed monthly. A volume fee is charged on the copied volume when a position is opened and closed; notably, it is not applied when positions are merely recalculated because you deposited or withdrew funds.

Because providers set their own rates, the real cost of using cTrader Copy depends entirely on which strategies you follow. A free or low-fee strategy can cost you almost nothing beyond normal trading spreads and commissions, while a popular provider may charge a meaningful performance or management fee. Always read a strategy’s fee schedule and minimum investment on the official cTrader Copy page or inside the platform before allocating funds, and factor those fees into any performance figures you see.

Who is it for?

cTrader Copy is a natural fit for traders who are already committed to the cTrader platform and want to follow strategies without touching any extra software. If your broker offers cTrader and you like the idea of hands-off, server-side copying with simple equity-based sizing, it is one of the cleanest ways to do that. It also suits providers who have built a track record on cTrader and want a built-in audience and fee-collection system without running their own infrastructure.

It is a weaker choice if you need flexibility across platforms or more granular control. Traders who run accounts on MetaTrader as well as cTrader, or who want advanced sizing modes, symbol mapping and reverse copying, will find the single-platform scope limiting. Those situations usually call for a dedicated bridge-based tool — see our forex trade copier comparison for 2026 for the cross-platform options, or a one-time-licensed local copier if you want sub-second local execution and multi-platform coverage under a single licence rather than per-strategy fees.

Limitations to know

The headline limitation is scope: cTrader Copy lives and dies with the cTrader platform. If you ever want to copy to or from MetaTrader, DXtrade or another platform, this tool simply cannot do it, and you are tied to the subset of brokers that both support cTrader and enable the copy feature. Sizing is also deliberately simple — the equity-to-equity rule is easy to understand but offers none of the fixed-lot, multiplier or risk-percentage modes that bridge-based copiers provide, which matters if you want to copy a strategy at a very different risk profile than the provider runs.

Regulatory availability is another practical constraint. The service is not offered to US residents or citizens, and live copying can be unavailable or restricted for some retail clients of certain EU/EEA-regulated brokers, so your eligibility depends on where you are and who you trade with. Finally, remember that strategy statistics are supplied by third-party providers and that past performance is never a guarantee — the convenience of one-click copying does not remove the need to vet a provider’s history, drawdown and fees before you commit real money.

Verdict

cTrader Copy does exactly what it sets out to do: it turns copy trading into a native, friction-free feature of the cTrader platform. For an investor who already trades on cTrader, the combination of no software to install, server-side copying that keeps working when your computer is off, transparent equity-based sizing and no platform fee of its own is a genuinely strong package, and the provider-fee model is clearly disclosed up front. Those are the reasons it earns a solid, if not top-tier, score.

What keeps it from scoring higher is its deliberate narrowness. It is a cTrader feature, not a universal copier, so it cannot bridge platforms, offers only one sizing model, and locks you into the cTrader broker ecosystem. If that ecosystem is your home, cTrader Copy is an easy recommendation. If you need to copy across MetaTrader and cTrader, want richer risk controls, or prefer to pay once for a licence instead of ongoing per-strategy fees, a dedicated cross-platform copier will serve you better. At 3.7 out of 5, it is a very good tool within its lane and an incomplete one outside it.

Frequently asked questions

Is cTrader Copy free to use?

There is no separate subscription or licence charged by cTrader for the copy service itself, so joining and following strategies is free at the platform level. You do pay any fees the individual strategy provider sets — which can include performance, management and volume fees — and these are shown before you start copying.

Does cTrader Copy work with MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5?

No. cTrader Copy is built into the cTrader platform and only works between cTrader accounts at brokers that support the feature. It cannot copy to or from MT4, MT5 or any other platform; for that you need a bridge-based cross-platform copier.

Do I need to keep my computer or a VPS running?

No. Copying runs server-side within the cTrader and broker infrastructure, so trades are mirrored even when your own device is switched off. There is no expert advisor, bridge or VPS to install or maintain.

How is the copied trade size calculated?

cTrader Copy uses an equity-to-equity model: copied volume equals your equity divided by the provider’s equity, multiplied by the provider’s traded volume. Sizes are rounded to the broker’s volume step, and the ratio is recalculated automatically whenever you add or remove funds.

Can I stop copying and get my money back?

Yes. You can stop copying at any time. When you do, any open copied positions are closed and your remaining funds return to your main account. While copying, your balance must stay at or above the strategy’s minimum investment, and you can only withdraw amounts above that minimum unless you stop entirely.
